Finding Peace and Connection in Nature: A Forest Bathing Experience at Minsteracres
The ancient woodlands of Minsteracres have always been a place of peace and reflection. On a beautiful autumnal morning, with the leaves just beginning to blush with the vibrant oranges of the season, a group gathered in our old Shrubbery to experience this peace in a new way. We were delighted to welcome Laura Waugh of Oak & Air, who led a special Forest Bathing session for a small group on the estate.
Laura, a nature therapy guide and breathwork facilitator, guided the group through a morning of mindful immersion in the natural world. Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice of connecting with nature through the senses. It is not about hiking or exercise, but about slowing down and bathing in the atmosphere of the forest.

Under Laura’s gentle guidance, the group took the time to truly be present in the woodland. They paused to meditate, to breathe in the crisp autumn air, and to notice the intricate details of the natural world around them – the texture of bark, the pattern of leaves, the quality of the light filtering through the canopy. It was a morning of quiet contemplation, of reconnecting with the gentle rhythms of nature and, in doing so, with themselves.
The session concluded with a warm and welcome tea, a chance to share reflections and to carry the tranquility of the morning forward. The experience was a beautiful reminder of the healing power of creation, something that is at the heart of our mission here at Minsteracres. As we continue our work to restore and care for our precious environment, we are reminded of the profound connection between our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the world around us.
We are so grateful to Laura for sharing her gifts with us and for helping us to see our beloved woodlands with fresh eyes.
We hope to host more Forest Bathing sessions as part of next year’s events schedule.
