Experience the Joy of Song: Join Renowned Choral Expert Monique at Minsteracres This July!

Minsteracres is thrilled to welcome back the incredibly talented Monique for our “Singing Week: Hope, Love and Life” in July 2025. This is a unique opportunity for both Dutch and English singers to immerse themselves in the uplifting power of music, guided by a true master of her craft, in the serene and beautiful surroundings of our iconic venue.

Meet Monique: A Force of Nature in the World of Music

Monique is more than just a choral director; she’s an inspiration. Hailing from Utrecht in the Netherlands, she is a renowned choral expert and the director of five diverse choirs, both church and secular. Her impressive career includes involvement in major musical productions such as “Jesus Christ, Superstar,” “Shrek,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “The Blues Brothers.”

But Monique’s talents extend beyond the stage. Since the Covid pandemic, she has powerfully applied her skills to music therapy, particularly for individuals living with dementia. Her work focuses on alleviating common symptoms of fear and anger, bringing comfort and connection through the profound medium of music.

What truly sets Monique apart is her inimitable style. She possesses an extraordinary ability to restore musicianship in even the most “rusty” of singers. Her approach is a delightful blend of joy, patience, and humour, creating an unforgettable and deeply rewarding experience for all who participate. It’s no wonder that for her significant contributions to music and much more, Monique was awarded membership of the Order of Orange-Nassau by King Willem-Alexander in April 2022 – a testament to her impact.

An Anglo-Dutch Week of Harmony and Hope at Minsteracres

This July, Monique returns to Minsteracres, bringing with her a group of singers to share a captivating programme. The week is designed for both Dutch and English singers, with English being the common language for the sessions. However, the unique “ZangZaak” (Dutch singing approach) character remains, and with plenty of Dutch speakers present, any language nuances will be easily navigated.

While seasoned singers who have joined Monique for years will be returning, new faces are warmly welcomed! It’s beneficial if you have some polyphonic choir experience, as we’ll be diving into rich, multi-layered harmonies. The repertoire will be a delightful mix under the theme ‘Hope, Love and Life,’ including pieces like:

  • “You Raise Me Up”
  • A part of “The End” by Jordan Hart
  • “The Keel Row” by Rutter (a Northumbrian folk song)
  • “Thula Sizwe”
  • “Flying Without Wings”

The selection will depend on participant registrations, particularly for basses and tenors – so gentlemen, your voices are keenly anticipated!

A Focused and Fulfilling Programme

As this singing week is slightly shorter than previous editions, the emphasis will be even more keenly on the joy of singing together. The global daily programme will generally feature singing in the morning, free time followed by more singing and a happy hour in the afternoon, and evenings filled with singing and socialising.

While there will still be free time to enjoy the peaceful walks and serene atmosphere of Minsteracres, there will be fewer group outings, allowing for maximum immersion in the musical experience. Participants will also have the option to join in the prayer rhythm of the Minsteracres community.

Good news for partners too! Non-singing partners are welcome to accompany participants at a reduced rate. Please note that an alternative program is not offered during the singing sessions. For Dutch participants, there will be a chance to get to know each other and share memories in June before the week begins.
