The Semibreve Collective

A huge thank you to The Semibreve Collective,  Annie Ball, Katie Tertell and Gareth Davies-Jones for a wonderful concert last Sunday.  Miraculously, the weather remained dry for the duration of the concert and shortly afterwards the heavens opened. They combined songs, instrumentals and the stories behind them, and allowed us to sit back and let their unique blend of voice, accordion, cello and guitar to ease us through a late summer’s afternoon. The grounds have a real sense of calm and tranquillity about them and an afternoon of live music in the Peace Garden – a lush and relaxing space – just enhanced this sense of tranquillity.

This is the first in what we hope will be a regular feature at Minsteracres, but we are still working out the details.

Watch this space for more details in due course.

The Northern Saints Trails are a collection of six long-distance walking trails based on ancient pilgrimage routes. They position the North East as the The Crossroads of British Christianity and bring the fascinating stories of the region’s Saints to life. The trails are set against a backdrop of the very best of the region’s attractions, landscapes, places to eat and drink and accommodation.

The six routes reflect the saint’s journeys and their connections with the North East and also recognise the significance of Durham Cathedral as a destination for pilgrims for centuries – from connections with St Cuthbert, who was brought to Durham Cathedral from Lindisfarne by monks in the 9th Century, to the Venerable Bede, regarded as one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon scholars whose shrine has lay in the Galilee Chapel at Durham Cathedral since the 14th Century.

We will keep you posted and share photos from Holy Island , Bamburgh , Durham ,Heavenfield, St Paul’s Jarrow and Bede Museum with a visit to Hexham Abbey on Friday
